Frequently Asked Questions
The Plot
What is your book about?
The World That Was tells the story of Matilda, humanity’s first time traveller. Matilda is sent back in time to 12th Century England to kickstart an early renaissance so that humanity can avoid a future global catastrophe. She’s had years of training but quickly learns that no plan survives first contact with the enemy.
What genre is it?
The World That Was is a blend of Historical Fiction and Science Fiction, telling the story of everyday medieval life with a touch of the future added in.
Why 12th Century England?
England was on the cusp of a renaissance in the early 12th century. Technologies were being (re)discovered and, after the White Ship sunk, there was some support for women in positions of leadership. Unfortunately the chaos of the Anarchy disrupted this progress, preventing the period from achieving its full potential.
How long is it?
The World That Was is 123,000 words, about 400 pages in a standard-sized book print.
